National Conference on “Current Status & Recent
Advances in
Medicinal and Aromatic Plants Research"
10th and 11th
February 2012
Organized by
Aurora’s
Degree & PG College
&
A. P. Medicinal Plants Board
About the College:
Aurora’s
Degree & PG College
is known for establishing unique traditions in every aspect of its functioning
with mission to blend the strong cultural fundamentals of the Indian heritage
with advanced modern learning tools, thus providing a direction to education.
The college hosts various State level and National level symposia, workshops,
technical and non-technical events beyond curriculum to bring students from
different backgrounds to a common platform to explore, discover and discuss
their hidden potential and talent.
About APMAB:
Andhra
Pradesh Medicinal and Aromatic
Plants Board has been set up during the year 2002 to promote Medicinal and
Aromatic Plants sector (MAP) in Andhra Pradesh with the active support of
National Medicnal Plants Board. The
Board is envisaged to develop Medicinal & Aromatic Plantation Sector in Andhra
Pradesh, India and
to institute a system of long-term sustainable and equitable use of MAPs. The
objective is to improve resource conservation and livelihood security in rural
and marginalized communities by development of local awareness of the value of
Medicinal Plants. It popularise the need for MAP conservation by bringing the
benefits of Medicinal Plants to support local health systems and livelihoods.
About Conference:
Medicinal
and Aromatic Plants (MAPs) have been a major source of health care since time
immemorial. Plants parts, extracts and phytochemicals derived from medicinal
plants are being used in different systems of medicine like Ayurveda, Siddha,
Unani, Homeopathy, Folklore, and Allopathy. About 25% of prescription drugs are
derived from medicinal plants. Growing awareness in using ecofriendly
phytoconstituents in phytotherapy led to
conscientious efforts by scientists all over the world to search for sources of
plant derivatives for effective use as active botanicals. The pharmaceutical and agrochemical
industries are currently engaged actively in Research and Development of
eco-friendly phytochemicals as 70-80% of the world population are relying on
products which are of plant origin for primary health care. These attributes
clearly indicate the demanding position of MAPs in the present market.
Therefore Aurora Degree
& PG College
intends to organize a National Conference by providing an opportunity to
students and researchers to share their valuable ideas in the field of Natural
products. The programme will include plenary lectures by eminent Scientists,
Oral and Poster presentations by students and Commercial Exhibition by the
companies related with the Medicinal and Aromatic Plant products
Objectives:
·

exchange of ideas on the emerging trends in MAPs Research
·
To bring awareness among students
about the importance of MAPs
·
To encourage farmers for the
commercial cultivation
·
To provide an opportunity for
students to present papers related to MAPs research
·
To provide a platform for students
to interact with Scientists and Industrialists to know the career opportunities
in phytochemical industries.
